"My professional journey began in the health service when I trained as a nurse and then as a community health visitor. Some years later I trained as a Counsellor and combined this with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Training) and Hypnotherapy and worked in a GP practice as a Clinical Psychologist. I saw a need for communication and assertiveness groups and organised courses which we all benefited from!
My personal life was a different matter and our 20-year marriage was falling apart. My physical body was a wreck with severe lower back pain and at one point my neck was in a brace. As often happens in difficult times my spiritual self was beginning to emerge. I was 40.
Being in relationship again wasn't easy. Part of me desired intimacy yet a bigger part was fearful. It would be some years before I discovered my childhood wounding that lay behind this pattern and that trauma memories are not just held in the mind. They are also stored deep in the cells of our body. |

In 1996 I decided to turn my safe and predictable life upside down and volunteered to work in Romania. I was scared but knew this would be a positive change. Politically naive, I organised communication courses for doctors and nurses - quite a task after 50 years of communism when no one trusted anyone. I found the people so generous. After 18 months I returned to the UK My first grandchild was due.
My own healing still felt incomplete. Then four years ago I came across shamanic healing and began my training. At last I felt I was coming home to myself. As the cellular memories of my own wounding were cleared I experienced a new sense of 'lightness' in my being. My back pain disappeared.
At the end of the training I wanted to learn more and decided to travel to South America. Somewhere I would meet the perfect shaman! In Ecuador I met the leader of the Shuar tribe and a shaman. When I explained my interests to him he invited me to stay with his community in the heart of the Amazonian jungle. He and his people were my teachers. I witnessed their deep reverence for the animals, the land and everything growing. With complete confidence in the leader I drank the hallucinogenic plant ayahuasca and met the spirits of the rainforest. My own spirit strengthened as did my trust in the universe."
Back in the UK I decided to set up Freeman Healing
– my own alternative therapy practice offering counselling, chakra healing and ancient shamanic healing – and in 2007 returned to my home in Dorchester, Dorset."
